November 2008 Archives
The title comes from an exhibition I went to 20 or so years ago (it also features documemtary pictures of romantic places).
I'll do more of these.

I'll do more of these.

Well, it seems as though the cement works ("the quarry") is going to close.
Another article in the Guardian newspaper on Saturday has a report by an employee that indicates that milling of already-quarried cement would continue until stocks run out... and then they would close the plant.
Sad quote from the article from the guy, Colin Patten: "One or two people are going to be happy because there'll be fewer lorries, but that doesn't get jobs does it?".
Article is here.
JOOI, while driving back to Cambridge from Chepstow today, I saw about four Cemex lorries. NSTAC.

For all you folks who know me... I used to work in Barrington, just outside Cambridge...
Well, it makes the business pages of the Guardian newspaper today... The Cemex plant ("the quarry") has shed 90 jobs this week. A component of the 19,313 jobs lost this week in the UK (or the ones making the papers). I'm pleased to report that I'm not one of them. I now work for VoiceVault (six month contract right now) - Voice (not speech) recognition.
Incidentally, newspapers publishing 'jobs lost this week' has not happened here since the last recession, whenever that was - in my 20s...
